The conference will be held at Novotel Birmingham Centre, 70 Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2HT.
We welcome you to share research and experiences on resilience in Defence and Security through two sub-topics:
1.The importance of partnerships
The Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy (2021) highlighted the importance of strengthening resilience through national and global collaboration with allies and partners.
We are keen to hear about your work and your experiences across a wide range of topics which may include building and maintaining partnerships to counter state threats, build capability at home and overseas or defence and deterrence through collective security.
2. Building, maintaining, and restoring resilience
Building resilience to establish a 'whole-of-society' approach requires work to be done at individual, organisational and societal levels to improve our ability to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from a wide-range of risks.
You may be working in mental health and wellbeing for example, at the individual level.
Or supporting organisational resilience through an integrated approach across government, industry, the third sector and academia.
Building a higher level of societal resilience to deal with the challenges of the grey zone could be an area of interest in your work.
Whatever your area of interest, we would love to hear from practitioners and researchers who are willing to share their knowledge about resilience in defence and security.
Target audience: Social psychology and Cognitive, Clinical, Occupational, Sports and Exercise. All those who may have an interest in applying psychology In Defence and Security Section.

Speakers
Keynote Speaker 1: Garry Banford
Topic: Elite Teamwork - High stakes. High pressure. Uncertainty.
This keynote will focus on individual resilience in what we can control and will also lean into partnerships and building trust quickly. All elite teams are looking for high-performing individuals but how do you first find, train and sustain the best people? How do you ensure that your team is hyper-focused and equipped to achieve outstanding results without burning out or falling out?
High stakes. High pressure. Uncertainty. This was Garry's 'normal' for many years in his career within Special Forces where he honed his craft leading high-performing teams in demanding environments. He has a distinguished military career, serving over 2 decades in the UK MOD, 16 of which were in Special Forces and is one of the UK's most operationally seasoned leaders, serving all of his years with UKSF in the challenging and ever adapting aftermath of the Twin Towers attacks. He rose to the rank of Sergeant Major before leaving in 2019 to found his own company Duratus.
Since starting Duratus, Garry has been in high demand, coaching and mentoring executives and leaders across the world in numerous diverse sectors; from finance to football. It was clear from the start that his unique experiences resonated with clients, and could be successfully translated into their high-stake corporate environments. He has helped Duratus' clients make some incredible changes to their mindset, and make positive steps to progress toward their personal and professional goals.
He shares insights you won't easily find anywhere else - translated into real actionable advice that work in your own challenging environment. Garry has helped his clients navigate uncertainty, communicate their problems better, demonstrate authentic leadership, and perform optimally under pressure - all without sacrificing their own wellbeing. Duratus coaches have worked within and alongside some of the world's most elite teams including Navy SEAL team 6, NASA and Manchester City FC.
