Welcome to the Cyberpsychology Section Annual Conference!
To foster a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between technology and the human mind, we invite you to join us for a multidisciplinary conference that brings together academics, students, practitioners, and industry experts from across the diverse field of Cyberpsychology.
The conference provides a valuable platform for researchers to share their findings, for practitioners to discuss the practical implications of these findings, and for industry experts to offer valuable perspectives on the development and implementation of new technologies
We are pleased to announce that this year's conference will be held at:
STEAMhouse
Birmingham City University
Belmont Row
Birmingham
B4 7RQ
What is the Cyberpsychology Section Conference?
We're all curious about how the digital world shapes who we are. Cyberpsychology helps us understand this by exploring how things like social media, online games, and virtual reality affect our minds and how we interact with each other.
You can expect inspiring talks from leading experts in the field and a chance to hear about groundbreaking discoveries that are pushing the boundaries of what we know about the human mind in the digital age.
Parallel to last year's approach, we have decided to not restrict the content presented at the conference, and we have decided to move forward with no conference theme. This means we accept abstracts across the entire practice, though topic addressed may include:
- AI
- Gaming
- Online health
- Technology and care
- Technology and disorders
- Cybersecurity
- Social media
- Online language and emojis
- Technology in teaching
- Technology and ageing
- Eyewitnesses and bystanders
- Applications of technology
- Online relationships
- Online dating
- Gender
We're excited to see what amazing research and ideas you bring to the table!

Dr Joanne Lloyd
From Risk to Recovery? Digital Solutions for Online Harms
Dr Joanne Lloyd is a Professor of Applied Digital and Behavioural Psychology at the University of Wolverhampton. Her work focuses on online behaviours – particularly those that can carry a risk of harm, including online gambling, microtransaction purchasing, and the viewing of graphic real-world violent content via online modalities. She is also interested in the potential health and wellbeing benefits of the Internet, including digital interventions and online peer support. Currently, she is leading a GambleAware-funded mixed-methods project aimed at understanding experiences of, and attitudes towards, online peer support for gambling harms.
This keynote will consider several kinds of online behaviour that carry risk of harm, including gambling, videogaming, and exposure to disturbing content. We will explore the factors that drive engagement in these activities, and the potential harms that can result. We will also examine how digital technologies - ranging from online support spaces and communities to data analytics and digital tools - can play a crucial role in mitigating harm and supporting recovery. This session will highlight the dual nature of the internet as both a source of risk and a potential solution for harm prevention and intervention.
