Burnout: Is work always the cause?
- Stress and anxiety
- Work and occupational
About
Separating different types of burnout can be helpful for both practitioners and managers as we often think/assume it's work causing burnout, and therefore people stop working.
However, in the deliverers experience as a coach, she has seen that for a lot of her clients, work is actually the one place people experiencing burnout love, can thrive and be themselves in.
Rather, it's actually home, or other circumstances (e.g. home, religion) that has caused the real emotional distress. Therefore, solutions such as "signing off" work may not always be the best solution.
Who is the Event For?
This webinar is for practitioners exploring a complex issue of burnout and its root cause.
Work may be viewed as an easy target - It's an acceptable and understandable target to say aloud but perhaps it's not the real reason for exhaustion, and so saying "don't work" often doesn't help. Rather, finding and recognising the actual cause is important to deal with the exhaustion effectively.
Furthermore, whilst the exploration of this does not provide an an excuse for toxic work environments to exist, it will encourage practitioners and managers to look beyond the workplace…and perhaps celebrate work a little too!
By the end of the webinar, you will be able to:
- Define what we mean by 'burnout' and identify some common signs and symptoms of it
- Explain the history of the term 'burnout' and the usage of 'burnout' from healthcare into work in general
- Explain what is meant by other terms such as "rust out" and the 'Window of tolerance'
- Provide an overview of the current methods of managing burnout
- Define and summarise different 'types' of burnout, explaining how they may present and potential solutions
- Consider alternatives to behaviours, signs and symptoms not actually being burnout at all (e.g. are they related to medical condiitons?) and be able to explain why seeking medical help can be important
- Consider the current problem of "Wellbeing fatigue" and be aware of solutions as to how to encourage our clients or audiences to regain faith in wellbeing
