The Division of Neuropsychology is delighted to announce a training opportunity related to medico-legal practice on 13 November 2024 at the BPS London Office, 30 Tabernacle Street, London, EC2A 4UE.

We have teamed up with Bond Solon, the UK's leading provider of legal expert training to provide a heavily discounted day course on excellence in report writing. Places are strictly limited to ensure an effective group learning experience.

The course is the standard Bond Solon course covering civil law and procedure. Learning outcomes and further details are specified on the Bond Solon website and brief details are below for your convenience:

An expert witness's report is a vital element in litigation. It must be clear, succinct, independent and well presented

Many experts develop their own report-writing style or adopt other people's. But they've rarely received constructive feedback from lawyers on what's actually required from their written evidence.

This course explores what lawyers and the courts expect and require from an expert witness's report. You'll be taught how to assess your own and other experts' reports, and to produce, quickly and consistently, reports that are court-compliant and that can withstand cross-examination.

By the end of the day, the learner will be able to:

  • Identify the issues to be addressed in your report
  • Use a structured approach to preparation and writing
  • Express an independent view and arguing your conclusion
  • Handle supporting information
  • Develop an objective and critical eye in relation to your report
  • Insulate your report against cross-examination
  • Deal with procedural requirements, including The Expert's Declarations

As an expert witness involved in civil proceedings in England and Wales, you need to understand the basics of law and legal procedure. This helps you work effectively and confidently, and to comply with mandatory requirements.

This is the second of four courses which comprise the Bond Solon Certificated course in expert witness work. We will run the remaining two courses over the next 18-24 months and expect to give priority to those who have attended previous courses.

The advantage of attending this course, as brokered by the BPS Division of Neuropsychology, is you will be learning alongside other clinical neuropsychologists and therefore more likely to gain additionally from examples/Q&A as contributed to by your colleagues.
