In Between: Navigating the Early Career Space
- Clinical

About
This Division of Clinical Psychology event brings together early career and newly qualified psychologists with the aim of knowledge sharing and community building.
Following the support and guidance offered within training programs, the transition to professional practice and management roles involves a unique set of challenges. Faced with demanding tasks within busy services, it can be difficult to make space to consider larger questions around the future of clinical psychology. How do we think about our roles as clinical psychologists and leaders in the field? How do we shape services to be culturally responsive, sustainable, and effective for the populations we aim to serve?
This in-person event includes talks from senior leaders and peers, as well as interactive discussions focused on our current challenges and longer-term ideas. There will also be opportunities to connect with other psychologists to promote connection and self-care.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Dr Alexandria Phillips, Clinical Psychologist
Tier 3 Weight Management Service
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
In this newly commissioned service, Alex has been challenged to lead a team early in her qualified career and work closely with commissioners to set up an effective health service that meets the needs of the borough. She is learning to navigate the challenges of the NHS as a newly qualified clinical psychologist, finding the balance between autonomy and seeking support from a diverse MDT and wider psychology network.
Alex is committed to advancing the psychological treatment options for people using weight management services through her research and clinical work and providing accessible and inclusive weight management services.

Dr Ravi Rana, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Director of Psychology
East London NHS Foundation Trust
Ravi trained as a clinical psychologist in the 80's after an early career in academia and continued to work, mostly across a range of clinical settings in the NHS but also in HEE, for the next 40 years. She also trained in psychoanalysis and held a small private practice for many years. Having led clinical services as a clinician for most of her career, her work over the past 10 years, as Director of Psychology at ELFT, has been more strategically focused.
Ravi is particularly interested in bridging physical and mental health to deliver more holistic, citizen led patient-centred services, and in developing an applied psychology workforce that is better attuned to meeting the needs of our local populations.
