Evaluation of the Staff Sharing Scheme in Primary Schools: A behaviour management and group problem solving intervention for teaching staff
Author: Kathryn Arsenault
The Staff Sharing Scheme is an intervention designed to assist school staff in more effectively managing challenging behaviour.
It involves training in behaviour management skills, a problem solving framework and how to run structured meetings where staff can come together to collaboratively support each other in working through school related problems.
This scheme was implemented in two mainstream primary schools identified as high excluding relative to other schools in the county.
Measures were also taken in three control schools.
Although the participants rated the scheme positively no changes in staff stress, staff sense of efficacy or classroom environment were found through questionnaire measures across time or between participants.
These results are discussed in light of principles from organisational psychology and recommendations for future practice are made.
