British Psychological Society Membership & Subscription Fees – Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions relate to the membership of the British Psychological Society and its subscriptions, member networks, lists, directories, and registers.
Applications & Purchases
- Your membership of the society and its subscriptions, networks, lists, registers, and directories will run for 12 months from the date your membership application is confirmed, or at the renewal of your subscription, regardless of if you pay in full or by monthly direct debit.
- The start and end date of your membership of any member network, list, register or directory will align with the renewal date of your membership of the society. If you purchase one of these products part way through a year, then it will be paid at a pro-rata rate for the first year and linked to your society membership renewal dates for future payments.
- Your initial subscriptions to join member networks, lists, directories and registers can be purchased using any available payment method. Future payments will be paid via the same payment method as your membership of the society. For example, if you purchase a new membership to a member network using an online payment method, but your membership of the society is paid by direct debit, then in subsequent years your member network membership will automatically be paid by direct debit.
- CRM functionality dictates that there may be times when you are unable to purchase or add new subscriptions to your membership. If this is the case then you will receive an automated message via the system advising you of this and directing you to reattempt your purchase at a later date. This will usually be due to a pending payment or change to your membership.
- If you pay via direct debit and your direct debit instruction is cancelled by you or your bank, we will send you an invoice for outstanding fees that should be paid within 30-days. If you do not pay promptly, then your membership, any associated subscriptions and access to your member benefits will end immediately.
Refunds
- Application fees are non-refundable.
- Purchases of membership of the society, and its subscriptions, member networks, lists, directories and registers have a 14-day cooling off period. If you change your mind during this time, please email [email protected] to cancel and we will arrange a refund using the same payment method made to purchase the product.
- After the 14-day cooling-off period, we will only provide a refund if we have made an error in processing.
- It is your responsibility to pay the correct amount to the society for membership. If you overpay, a refund will not be issued.
Exceptions
- As a member or subscriber of the British Psychological Society, you are expected to adhere to the Member Conduct Rules, and act in a way that reflects and demonstrates the society's values. You will not receive a refund if you are expelled or suspended under the Member Conduct rules. This also applies to the 14-day cooling off period.
- If the British Psychological Society is advised that a member is deceased and fees or subscriptions were paid in full at the annual renewal, a pro-rata refund will be issued on request.
Reductions
- You can find details of the costs of all available society memberships and subscriptions online.
- Under special circumstances you may be eligible for a reduced rate. To apply, you should complete the online application form for reductions at least 30 days before your subscription renewal date. Reductions are applicable for one year, and you can reapply when renewing your society membership if your circumstances have not changed.
- You are responsible for keeping the society updated on your circumstances that may allow for reductions.
- If you are eligible for a retired rate, you will receive that rate for the duration of your membership with the society unless you tell us of a change in your circumstances.
- Post-Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) and Postgraduate concessionary reductions will be conferred by the society at the point of processing your application. The reduction will remain in place for the appropriate period based on the information on your member record.
Reinstatements
- You can reinstate your membership of the society within two years of expiry via the BPS website. This will not require you to complete a new application or pay a new application fee.
- If you wish to reinstate your membership and it is more than two years after the expiry, you will need to make a new application with supporting evidence and documentation and pay the appropriate application fee.
