New guidance on psychological services within the acute adult mental health care pathway
The British Psychological Society and the Association of Clinical Psychologists have published new guidelines for service providers, policy makers and decision makers.
01 October 2021
The guidance – a collaboration between our Division of Clinical Psychology and the ACP - calls for improved access to psychological assessment and evidence-based psychological interventions for adults within the acute mental health pathway.
Service users within the pathway need reflective and compassionate care, and the guidance suggests that including psychologists within acute adult mental health teams is crucial to achieving this.
If comprehensive and effective care is to be delivered in this service setting, the number of psychological staff needs to be increased across the pathway.
Further recommendations are made within the document.
